Can you use moissanite in an engagement ring?Updated 6 months ago

Moissanite, initially mistaken for diamond, is now a popular choice for engagement rings due to its affordability, durability, and brilliance. Discovered by Henri Moissan in 1893 within a meteorite, this gemstone is now lab-created due to its natural rarity.

Moissanite, the second hardest gemstone after diamond, scores 9.25-9.5 on the Mohs Hardness Scale, making it resistant to scratches and suitable for daily wear. Its brilliance surpasses that of diamonds, reflecting more light and offering a captivating sparkle. Available in colorless and near-colorless grades, moissanite provides a clear, icy appearance. Its clarity is nearly flawless, and it can be crafted into various cuts and shapes.

Although lighter than diamonds (about 10% less carat weight), moissanite's size is expressed in millimeters and diamond equivalent weight (DEW). Moissanite is also more environmentally friendly than mined diamonds, as it is lab-created with minimal environmental impact. Its popularity has surged, making it a recognized alternative to mined diamonds for engagement rings, offering longevity and beauty comparable to diamonds.
